Descendants of humans who survived the nukes in the year 2000, and the korhonen attacks. These humans, severely burned, and suffering from radiation poisoning were regarded as outcasts, they began to meet and plan an mass exodus. In 2056 earth leader Christopher Cartargia gave the order to eliminate these factions in order to prevent mutations passed along the bloodlines. Many were killed in the 1st few weeks. The remainder began to depart from earth, along with a stolen cruiser, with full fighter and hyperspace capabilities, the cruiser was stolen from the Mir Orbital Yards. The cruiser sustained heavy damage when fleeing from the sol system, then disaster struck - radiation from a solar flare hit the ship, which forced its pursuers to break off. It was presumed that no-one survived.

In 2166 a Rahn probe discovered a population of 100,000, descended from these mutants in the tiger sector, reports indicated that they were immune to radiation due to there previous experiments and survived the solar flare. The mutants occupied 7 ships 3 miles long, with at least 500 small fighter craft. An earth ship was dispatched to that area but later disappeared......

On May 11th, 2236, the Orion 3 outpost was destroyed - a later message revealed the mutants responsibility. The mutants continue to attack any earth ships/stations they come across, but leave all the other races. As they believe that it was humanity alone who made them outcasts.

For the next 12 years, they continued attacks on many of the Earth space stations that were built during this period. Usually meaning these stations had to have powerful defensive weapons to protect against Mutant attack.

In July 2248, the Earth Confederation decided to fight back against these Mutants attacks using information gained from several sources to find the location of where they had been in hiding. They arranged several fake Earth cargo ships to be passing near the location of the mutant area. Waiting in hyperspace were 5 earth dread-naughts waiting for the Mutants to attack the ships before jumping out of hyperspace. The Mutants didn't expect this and attacked the ship, only to have jumppoints forming almost on top of them and the Earth ships emerged. The mutants ships were in disarray and many of their ships where destroyed or seriously damaged. Several of the mutant ships managed to escape through their own jumppoints.

This was the worst defeat the Mutants suffered. They suffered heavy losses and many of their ships had been destroyed. The Mutants have only appeared a few times since then over the last 15 years with minor skirmishes with Earth ships. The exact location of them at this time 2260 is uncertain because of conflicting reports from different sources. According to rumours, they are slowly rebuilding their forces for possible retaliation attacks on Earth ships/stations using help provided by several alien governments.

These are unknown design, it is unlikely that they built or captured them. The most common explanation is that they were the remain-ants of an alien race and the mutants took them. The larger ships are armed with positron beams, mass drivers, blasters, interceptors and a weapon of unknown origin that has been shown to cause mass destruction which may have been obtained from the same race as the ships. The fighters are also armed with with smaller versions of this alien weapon. The ships are brown and are thought to be a very very early version of organic ships.
